Born on the 31st of August, 1976, in Leipzig, East Germany, Manuela Boehm’s formative years were set against the backdrop of East Germany’s challenging period. These experiences cultivated a deep-rooted compassion and a burning desire to initiate positive change within communities. After delving into hotel management, her path took her across various European landscapes, from Germany’s bustling cities to the vibrant coasts of Spain. Each destination expanded her understanding of different cultures and the diverse nuances of the hospitality domain.
Thailand, with its rich tapestry of traditions and captivating landscapes, was where Manuela’s life trajectory shifted significantly. Not only was she immersed in the nation’s culture, but it was also where she met her life partner, a devoted South African. Embracing a change in career direction, Manuela dedicated six years to teaching kindergarten in Thailand. This role deepened her passion for giving and educating, further shaping her purpose.
While in Thailand, Manuela and her husband were blessed with two children, now aged 8 and 9. Despite the allure of Thailand, they felt a compelling call to South Africa. They aspired to provide their children with an upbringing enriched by their father’s African heritage and to contribute meaningfully to a nation facing pronounced socio-economic challenges.
United in their vision, Manuela and her husband founded the HealThySelf Foundation NPC in Johannesburg. This initiative embodies their shared aspiration to uplift communities. With Manuela’s acumen in teaching and the rich cultural heritage of her husband, the foundation champions sustainable practices. They introduce individuals to the treasures of African medicinal plants and equip them with the skills to cultivate their own food and medicine.
